KUALA LUMPUR - A food festival was organised by the University of Malaya’s Student Council in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FSSS) at the faculty’s Dataran Sastera yesterday.
The food festival was organised as a fundraiser event for the Social Engagement project of the first year students of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
“As the students require funds in order to ensure their Social Engagement project runs well, the food festival helps them to generate their own funds and reduce their burden in completing their project,” said Aisyah Zulzadi, a member of the Student Council of FSSS.
The two-day festival featured six booths from the department of Anthropology and Sociology, Geography, East Asia Studies, Southeast Asia Studies, History and Social Justice. These booths were handled by the students themselves. Besides that, there were four booths set up by NYX, Gilette, Sneakers and Unifi.
Nur Anis, a student from the department of History was in charge of selling sandwiches and hot dogs for her booth. “This is my first time doing an activity together with all of my coursemates from my department. It has been quite challenging to run the booth but so far, I think we are doing pretty well,” she said.
“We also hope that by organising a food festival, this will increase the students entrepreneurship skills, build a strong rapport among themselves as well as enable the faculty to provide a chance to non-FSSS students to get to know the faculty deeper,” Danial Dazris, another member of the Student Council of FSSS said.
Hani Batrisya, a student of FSSS who attended the festival, was impressed with the booths available. “I like the booth that features a hanbok and yukata wearing session. I wish the best of luck for the first year students on the Social Engagement project,” she said.
According to Aisyah Zulzadi, the festival achieved its objectives and the students were able to obtain enough profits to fund their projects.
