KUALA LUMPUR – Titled “Gunteng”, this year’s Malaya Mock Trial was held for three consecutive days (2nd, 3rd and 4th May 2019) at The School Jaya One with an unexpected plot twist at the end of the show that surely did “cut” through their fans’ hearts.

The three hours storyline was not only humorous, but also remarkable and has once again left a big impact to everyone just like previous years. Students from various other universities also attended this year’s Malaya Mock Trial. Tickets were sold out fast when they opened up online orders a week before the event.
Mock trial is best known for its court system settings with the legal counsels and terms mashed with a theatrical flair. Apart from having a great mastermind, Azimah Arifin, a second year law student and her team, AwStar in charge of the script-writing, they also have an official legal checker to ensure that there is no mistake made regarding the legal substances used for the performance.
Just like the following years, they used the concept of what is currently mainstream where they brought numerous characters that have been getting quite a lot of attention for two consecutive years. Some of them were Dory from the movie Finding Dory, Cute Girl from the viral Indonesian animation titled “SiNopal” that brought a huge wave here in Malaysia, and few more.
“The ideas of using these characters for the mock trial was solely from us and maybe that is why it was not difficult for us to develop into these characters”, said one of the actors, Adillah Zaki, 20 on the time they spent on being “one” with the characters.
The director of this year’s Malaya Mock Trial, Muhammad Muhaimin, 24, said that he believes that last year’s mock trial was better than this year in terms of its content. However, he preferred this year’s stage compared to the previous years because they got to perform on a better stage with a better sound system.
“The crowd for the first and second day was beyond amazing but the crowd for the last day was hard for us to please but all in all I am glad that the number of our audience has been consistent with the past years”, said Muhammad Muhaimin.
In collaboration with Oyoshi, ChimiChurri and many more, Malaya Mock Trial succeeded on pulling off a magnificent show and people are already looking forward to next year’s.
